Coaching
Richie offers coaching for beginner and intermediate players, both junior and adult. Coaching can be with individuals, groups, or schools via Zoom (or other video conferencing software) or in person in Invercargill, New Zealand.
Chess lessons cover the following and more:
- The pieces and how they move
- The rules and laws of chess
- Chess notation
- Chess etiquette
- Tactics and strategy
- Checkmates
- Openings
- Endings
- Pawn Structure
- Position Evaluation
- Game Analysis
- Tournament Preparation
Individuals
- Usually from age 8, but will consider younger children depending on ability, social skills, etc.
- Usually 1 lesson per week
- Lesson length 30, 45, or 60 minutes depending on age and ability
- Fees available on request
- If your child is home schooled, lessons can be arranged during ‘traditional school hours’
Groups
- Groups of 2-8 students welcome
- Contact me to discuss rates
Schools
- 1 x 30 minute lesson a week
- Extra 30 minutes supervision, question time, etc
- 25 weeks approximately, per year (Terms 1-3)
- Fees available on request
- Possible travel charge, location dependent
- Zoom or in person
- Maximum 8 students per lesson
Holiday Programs
- Chess lessons and a chess tournament with medals
- Chess colouring in competition
- 10-50 children
- 3.5 – 4.5 hours
- Cost available on request
