2025 The Year That Was

2025 has come and gone in a flash, it was so busy that I never posted anything here…

Anyways, onwards and upwards, and a Happy New Year to you all. May 2026 be an awesome year.

A quick look at 2025 from my side:

  • continued to coach – 23 students in all in 2025
  • did a month of sessions at Enrich@ILT in Invercargill
  • was appointed national director of training by the New Zealand Chess Federation
  • was an arbiter at the Bob Wade Memorial Masters in Auckland in January 2025
  • was awarded the School Instructor title by FIDE
  • passed the International Arbiter’s exam
  • played in the NZ Rapid & Blitz Championships in Auckland
  • played in the South Island Chess Championships and Rapid Champs in Dunedin in September
  • played in the Arie Nijman Memorial in Christchurch in May
  • ran competitive chess at the Invercargill-Southland Chess Club.
  • ran a number of junior tournaments
  • ran the Southland Intermediate and Secondary Schools Interschools at James Hargest College
  • did a coaching session at and helped run the school chess champs at Verdon College
  • continued in my role as admin officer, secretary and federation rating officer for the New Zealand Chess Federation

I should probably stop there, I am sure there is alot more and I may add to the list at some point! But it gives you some idea of what I do in the chess world!
